What fits in 100 KB
- A photo of a typed page: our 12-megapixel test photo came out at 1140 × 1521 pixels. Everything was readable, including small print.
- A portrait photo: plenty of room. Our test portrait was already under 100 KB and kept its full size.
- Several pages: not in one image. Use Compress PDF to a size to combine them into one PDF.
How we tested: a 512 × 512 head-and-shoulders portrait (a public-domain NASA photo) and a 12-megapixel phone photo of an A4 page of 11-point typed text, run through this tool with its default settings in Firefox. Busy backgrounds and noisy low-light photos need more space.
Tips for a 100 KB limit
- Photograph documents flat, in daylight, filling the frame with the page. Even light makes the biggest difference to how clear the text is at 100 KB.
- iPhone photos (HEIC) work directly. The tool saves them as JPG.
- Already under 100 KB? The tool still makes a fresh copy, without location or camera details, and tells you it was already under the limit.
Questions
Is 100 KB the same as 0.1 MB?
Yes. The tool aims about 2% under 100,000 bytes, so the file also fits forms that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
Will the receiving office be able to read it?
Open the result and zoom in before uploading. If small print is blurry, crop the photo to just the page and try again.
