Compress an image to 50 KB

    What fits in 50 KB

    • A portrait photo: our 512 × 512 test portrait kept its full size at good quality (49 KB).
    • A photo of a typed page: it came out at 700 × 934 pixels. Normal text was readable; small print was not.
    • A signature: easily. Use the signature tool for a clean white background.

How we tested: a 512 × 512 head-and-shoulders portrait (a public-domain NASA photo) and a 12-megapixel phone photo of an A4 page of 11-point typed text, run through this tool with its default settings in Firefox. Busy backgrounds and noisy low-light photos need more space.

Tips for a 50 KB limit

    • For ID-style photos with set dimensions, use the passport and visa photo maker where your country is supported.
    • Crop to what the form asks for. A photo cropped to head and shoulders keeps much more detail in 50 KB than a full-length one.
    • Start from the original photo, not a screenshot or a copy from a messaging app. Those are already compressed and lose more each time.

    Questions

Can I compress several photos to 50 KB at once?

Yes. Choose them all; each one is made under 50 KB, and they download together as a ZIP.

    JPG or WebP?

JPG, unless the form specifically lists WebP. Almost every form accepts JPG.
